Version: 2.5.2-3

During the configuration of svgalib, the postinst script complained
about a command not being found. A sample output is given below. I am
using a Debian 0.93R6, with the 1.2.13 kernel, and libc 4.6.27 as
distributed. I think ldconfig should be in the binutils package, but
it does not appear to be.

$ dpkg --configure svgalib
Setting up svgalib ...
/var/lib/dpkg/info/svgalib.postinst: ldconfig: command not found
dpkg: error processing svgalib (--configure):
 subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 127
Errors were encountered while processing:
 svgalib

Could you please check if you have '/sbin' and '/usr/sbin' in your PATH
for root? If not, add them and try again.

'dpkg --search ldconfig' would tell you it's part of the ldso package.

Would it be useful for dpkg to check for this and issue a warning if
it is started in a package management mode without /usr/local/sbin,
/usr/sbin and /sbin on the PATH ?

If so, would someone please reassign this bug to dpkg (and reopen it
if necessary).
