Whois Thingy

Category: Networking, IRC Tools, mIRC Addon Scripts

Title: Whois Thingy 1

Format: Win OS

Description: Small addon that allows you to display the /whois output of someone either through an echo or through a dialog window. If you choose to display it in an echo, then you have 4 different themes available to you. You can also use the 5th slot to set your own colours through a custom window (preview basically) and the popups for that window. What is nice about the script is essentially its ability to automatically /whowas someone if they are not online and its flexibility in allowing you to display the information in the colours of your choice. You can configure your options through a dialog window. Personally, I find this script a bit lacking due to the following reasons: While the script does display if a person is an IRCop or not, other information such as whether they are a services admin, a server admin, etc. is lost. The script cannot always get the idle time of a user due to the nature of /whois. However, they should have the option to "double-whois" the use (/whois nick nick) so that they

Win Tweaking Utility

Category: Networking, IRC Tools, mIRC Addon Scripts

Title: Win Tweaking Utility 0.005

Format: Win OS

Description: Windows Tweaking Utility is a fairly LARGE zip archive that contains a number of options when the mIRC dialog within it's INI file is loaded. The readme file explains this. *Warning: This addon should ONLY be used by advanced computer users. It allows multiple functionality and configuration for system settings.* When I first loaded the addon, I got this error: * /run: unable to open 'tweakstart.js' (line 31, tweak.ini). This file (tweakstart.js) was not included with my ZIP archive. I don't like the fact that the author's addon didn't detect the predefined system settings for each option. This is very scary when you click OK/Apply with no settings set. You may accidentally do something you don't want done. The dialogs in the addon are WAY too cluttered. All of the options are scattered everywhere amongst each other, and I don't like a scrolling tab (although it seemed okay). Among trying to uninstall the addon through it's menus, I also noticed this error: * /F: not connected to server. After

WinBNC

Category: Networking, IRC Tools, mIRC Addon Scripts

Title: WinBNC 1.21

Format: Win OS

Description: Pretty nice mIRC addon that allows you to use your connection as a BNC server for other users. The script comes along with a readme file that sums up the changes of the recent versions. It also has some setup instructions and a small FAQ. The script is easy to install and once you have, you configure the settings through popups and custom windows. While running the script, I didn't encounter any functionality problems so to speak of. The bouncer worked fine and it allowed others to connect as was proper. However, I did get quite a number of errors in the Status window but it didn't seem to affect its efficiency. It's probably due to the new mIRC version. The scripting was pretty well done. =) The only thing I saw was that some things were repetitive. The author might have found a way to safe a few bytes there but it's not that important. Nice variable names and local aliases used. All in all, a pretty nice script.

Windows Tweaking Utility

Category: Networking, IRC Tools, mIRC Addon Scripts

Title: Windows Tweaking Utility 0.001

Format: Win OS

Description: A very useful windows tweaking utility. This is a good example of hoe you can use mIRC's non-irc related features. If anyone is familiar with Tweak UI for windows, they'll feel right at home using this addon. It basically provides all of the features that Tweak UI provides, such as the ability to change the defualt shortcut icons, hide/unhide drives, change special folder names, remove special desktop icons, etc. It allows you to remove the windows on-boot splash screen, as well as choose to display the boot menu, and to boot into safe mode as default. You can select a *.bmp file to display as internet explorer's toolbar background, which is fun. The author has taken great care to incude a lot of features, this one has more than the version of Tweak UI that I am already using. There is a lot of documentation, the author included a readme that provided installation instructions and a basic description, as well as a dialog based help system that I found to be very complete. The addon works well,

Xmp3

Category: Networking, IRC Tools, mIRC Addon Scripts

Title: Xmp3 1.1

Format: Win OS

Description: Small mIRC addon consisting of a single remote file that allows you to play MP3s through popups. There are no setup instructions. Once you have loaded the script, you can use the popup menu in the menubar to configure your options. You can chose to have certain popups or not, to display the ID3-tag information, to show the songs you are playing on the channel or not, etc. When first loading the script, you will be prompted for the location of your mp3 player and also the location of your mp3 directory. Once that is done, you can use the channel popups to select the mp3 that you wish to play. I didn't see any playlist options or controls (to pause, stop, skip, etc.). You can also chose to reconfigure your mp3 player and mp3 file directory. Unfortunately, even if you press on Cancel, the script will not remember your previously chosen directories. Another inconsistency with the addon is that it doesn't really show all the files that you play in the channel even if you have mp3 advertising turned
