WPM

Category: Networking, IRC Tools, mIRC Addon Scripts

Title: WPM

Format: Win OS

Description: Interesting little addon that allows you to calculate the speed at which you type. The authour included an in-depth readme.txt file. It explains the history of the script, setup instructions, etc. When you first load the script, you will get an echo that informs you on how to start it. The addon is quite easy to use, presented through a Custom Window. It works well, allowing you to chose your level through a setup button in the main custom window. I did find a little bug. If you use backspace in the script in order to correct your mistake, the script will display your accuracy level at 100%. However, the display area of what you are actually typing is not corrected. In addition, whenever you open the Setup (configuration settings) window and then close it, the main custom window seems to reset and changes back to its original position on your screen. The coding is well done. I do have a couple of suggestions however. The authour should consider using "return" instead of "halt" in his events/al

Weather Reporter

Title: Weather Reporter 2

Format: Win OS

Description: An weather addon to check weather reports according to the zip code (US) you entered. A detailed readme file is included within the script. One thing I'm wondering about is that the author used .txt file as his script file, but thats not a problem :) The addon can be started by the command /weather [zip code] or you can access the popup from channel or status window. It is working well. I don't know if this zip code exists or not, 12345, the addon returns a place in NY with that zipcode, but it doesn't show any informations about that place. I'm guessing that I entered a wrong zip code. The coding is fairly alright. Only I found not working is the "Check Updates" in popup, the author must have entered an URL and forgot the command /run. There's also an ON CONNECT event which will autojoin you to the author's channel on 2 networks, which is BAD. The author also left out the identifier $sep :) I don't like the way author write everything received from the socket into a text file and place it on

WeeDaMp ReLeaSE

Category: Networking, IRC Tools, mIRC Addon Scripts

Title: WeeDaMp ReLeaSE

Format: Win OS

Description: Mp3 player with configuration based on dialogs. There were a lot of strong points in this script addon such as options to turn off channel "shoutouts". This is very considerate to the other irc users. However, there were also minor as well as more intensive flaws. When querying for the mp3 player, the scripter should have specified an .exe extension file instead of showing all files, which could lead to confusion. While playing a file, the first word of that file (for instance, "Shania" from Shania Twain - whatever.mp3) would show as an unknown command error. The scripter did not code his own binary variable outputs, but I appreciate the honesty. The slash "/" before aliases is not required and takes up space in scripts. The scripter triplecated (if there's such a word) all the popups instead of using menu status, channel, menubar. If the user was to cancel out the dialog that asks for mp3 player and your mp3 files, it sets the directory to nothing instead of disallowing a $null return using $$d

Whois Dialog

Category: Networking, IRC Tools, mIRC Addon Scripts

Title: Whois Dialog 1.2

Format: Win OS

Description: WHOIS intercepting addon. It will transfer all the received /whois information into a popup dialog window. Lights up little "buttons" if the user is away, a helper, an oper or is using a registered nick. You can also use the dialog to perform various commands such as putting them on ignore, dcc'ing them, opening a query, etc. Documentation is provided under the form of a brief readme file. Everything else is kind of self-evident. The dialog pops up automatically whenever there is a /whois reply - which can get a bit tedious if you have "auto-whois on query" checked, but it does what it is supposed to do. One of the nicer points of the script is that it displays a little icon depending on the ip address of the user you just /whois'ed. There are a bunch of country flags and three general ones for unresolved ips/.org, .net and .com hosts. One of the drawbacks of the script is that it doesn't allow you to see any additional information if the person is an oper. E.g.: Server administrator, services

Whois Plus

Category: Networking, IRC Tools, mIRC Addon Scripts

Title: Whois Plus 0.1

Format: Win OS

Description: Allows you to display /whois information in a custom window. The author included a readme.txt file that describes his script and also an explanation on how to load it. It starts working automatically and does not have an on/off switch. Basically, the script just redirects the information that you receive with a /whois to a custom window. However, everytime that you /whois someone else, the previous person's information will be erased from the window - a feature that could be both useful and annoying depending on the situation. I found that if you /whois someone who is not online, then it will display the message in the custom window without erasing any previous information. The coding is acceptable, if a little outdated. The author uses $parm* and also uses brackets when there are only 2 lines (one of which is "halt"). Something that might be a little unnecessary, but really a matter of personal preferance. There is some /whois information that the script won't pick up on. For example, if the
