File Server Script 4 4

Category: Networking, IRC Tools, mIRC Addon Scripts

Title: File Server Script 4 4 4.4

Format: Win OS

Description: Fileserver script (leech mode) with dialog interface. Supports standard fileserver features and also @find and direct file sending in the channel. The author did quite a good job on the documentation, taking pains to outline the features of the script in addition to the usual setup instructions, contact information and version updates. The script is easy to install and pops up the dialog window where you have to enter all the appropriate information. The script has a custom window that displays all the appropriate information and which should also allow you to toggle the various settings. This didn't work - double-clicking didn't do any good. However, you can reach these options through the popups as well. The dialog window has some rather oddly sized buttons but all in all is clean. However, there are some elements that overlap each other which can create an unpleasant effect when switching from another window back to the dialog. The coding is alright, with silenced timers/group en-disabling

File Server Script

Category: Networking, IRC Tools, mIRC Addon Scripts

Title: File Server Script 3.2

Format: Win OS

Description: Basic file server addon scripts which allows you to setup a simple trigger based file server. The script could have used a few more options beyond the basics which mIRC already has built in. However the script did have a nice dialog based setup routine and allows you to setup and run multiple file servers simultaneously. The script allows for advertising in different channels at different intervals, useful as different channels have different rules regarding advertising file servers. The coding was fairly well done, however the author used poor organization for the scripts different files, aliases in an alias file (not remote file), and the same with popups. However it does set itself up by loading one single .mrc remote script. Also, as a note it only works with mIRC 5.7, and does require all files be in mIRC's working directory which is definately not preferable for most users who use multiple addon scripts.

FileScan

Title: FileScan 1.2

Format: Win OS

Description: A small but functional file searching script. You can search for files using most of the criteria that can be found in window's own Find File. It includes an interface very similar to Find File. You can search for files based on name (wildcards are accepted), age, size, and even content. The dialog is easy to use - the top part definitely looks better that Microsoft's version. The documentation provided with the script was ok, and as the author pointed out, its just like windows. It's good to see that we are starting to get familiar interfaces in our scripts these days - itĘs far better than having to learn new ones. A unload popup was also included. The coding is clean, reasonable, and surprisingly short! In terms of efficiency, the script can only be as good as mIRC lets it be; which is slower than findfile. But its still nice to be able to do search functions from within mIRC instead of having to fumble around opening findfile. For the most part the script works fine. However it does have i

Find

Category: Networking, IRC Tools, mIRC Addon Scripts

Title: Find 1

Format: Win OS

Description: Very nice addon that allows you to search for a certain file (wildcards allowed) in the specified directory. Compact little script in the form of a *.mrc file. The instructions on how to use it are displayed at the beginning of the file, simply load it and you can start using it by typing the /find command or by going into the menubar popups. The addon contains dialog support that easily allows you to chose a folder in which to search for the file in question. It displays the number of files that were found and lists them in alphabetical order. You may chose to open the file in question, open it with an application of your choice or view it with Notepad. I didn't run into any error messages or other bugs. The coding is very well done, clean and presentable - nothing much left for me to say. :)

Flow Control

Category: Networking, IRC Tools, mIRC Addon Scripts

Title: Flow Control 1

Format: Win OS

Description: Addon script designed to enhance mIRC's loop functions through the DO and FOR commands. This is designed for mIRC Scripters and is not easily employed by the average mIRC User. Note: You cannot use these commands from the command line. The author included a *.txt file explaining the use of the script and also gives examples on how to employ it. In addition, this same set of instructions can be found on top of the remote file. From what I was able to tell, there weren't any bugs. It would have nice if you were able to implement multiple commands into a single loop function instead of repeating the entire command though. Perhaps the author would consider working on that in the future. The coding demonstrates the use of local aliases and variables, well chosen variable names, etc. Well done. I have been hearing "complaints" from a number of scripters about how looping in mIRC is always such a hassle. This addon will likely help them.
