New details about Direct Software's Power Amiga have been released. It
will be unveiled to the public at the World of Amiga show '97 in the
Uk. Below are the specs that it will feature:-
- 060 Processor
- Graphics Card
- AGA Hardware
- 22 Meg Memory
- CD-ROM
- 1 Gigabyte Harddrive
- Dedicated 3D Chips
- Zorro Slots
- Monitor
As you can tell from the above specs it does not actually contain a
PowerPC processor...Yet. This could cause some confusion. Although
the machine sounds very powerful it isn't really a step forward as all
it is, is a A1200 stuck in a tower case with some bits added on. It's
nothing that isn't already available.
At the moment the price being quoted for this 'Power Amiga' is £1,499.
This isn't a bad price really considering what it contains. Hopefully
there will also be some kind of upgrade procedure so you can upgrade
you amiga to this spec for a smaller amount...
A real Power PC version of this Amiga could be in the works from Direct
Software soon.....
