Alien - Formula One is an exciting new Formula One game for the Amiga computer. Although it is in it's early stages with a lot still to be added the game is looking very good.

The game is a fully texture mapped, light-sourced and gouraud shaded racer that runs in full screen at 1x1!! You might think that this would slow it down quite a bit, but even on my 030/50Mhz the game runs at a very acceptable pace. The author points out that the game is coded into the planar architecture of the AGA chipset instead of chunky routines that need to be converted. This apparantly makes the game a great deal faster, who am I to argue with this :)

Unfortunalty at the moment the game is only mouse controlled. Using the mouse it seems to be very hard to actually steer, with the car veering of course a lot of the time. Hopefully the author will be adding some joystick support in the future.

One thing that will strike you when you first play this is the VirtuaCockpit ie. The cars cockpit is rendered in real time and not pre-painted (Somewhat like what was found in Coala and what was supposed to be in TFX....), this allows you to look around you as you are driving, an excellent feature that will hopefully be expanded on. Obviously this slows the game down a bit so there is an option to disable it if you have a slow machine.

Sadly, due to the way in which the game access the AGA hardware it means that it isn't graphics card compatiable, it is however able to multi-task to a certain degree this can, however, be disabled to gain speed.

Other features that the game boasts are:-

Realistic Car Simulation - Basicly this means that the car will respond to different setups (tyres, wing settings etc.)

Instant Replay - Will show the last 40 seconds of racing, allowing you to view crashes, spectacular passing moves etc.

Intelligent Opponents.

The author is also considering the porting of some of the Lucasarts games (Tie Fighter etc.). He belives his 3D engine could easily handle them and only needs to get permission to do the conversions and find the time for them. :)

Hopefully there will be much more in the full game. This is IF the author has the time and the will to finish it. The author needs all the help he can get to finish this game, however, he doesn't have an email address so any contact will have to be made via smail mail or phone. His address is:-
