DoomGATE is started either via the Icon on WB, or via WBLoad. Do not
attempt to start DoomGATE in any other way. If you want to start
DoomGATE via a menu system, get it to execute the command
WBLoad [Directory]/DoomGATE
eg.
WBLoad Sys:Doom/DoomGATE
(WBLoad © 1995-97 THOR-Software inc.)
I hope that the usage of DoomGATE is simple enough for it to be used
until proper documentation manages to make it on my drive. Make sure
that you take a quick look at the Quick Guide graphic that the installer
offers to show you. It will be updated each time, to notify you of
small changes that you might need to be aware off.
The file data/CommandLine.data contains the definitions that DoomGATE
uses to know about the tags that your version of doom supports. You can
edit this to add new tags that are released, or to remove tags that you never
use. Also, you can flag lines in this file so that DoomGATE knows to
default to settings this commandline (say, if you always want -music).
It is in this format ;
Flag [SPACE] ID [SPACE] Command [TAB] [TAB] *Help Text*
As an example,
1 CDEV -devparm *Sets Game to Development Mode*
0 CAVG -avg *Set Game Length to 20 Minutes*
0 CRES -respawn *Respawns Baddie After 8 Seconds of Death*
1 CNOM -nomonsters *Turns off Monsters*
Things that might not be obvious
- Using Custom WADS
- Set some up with the Custom WADS list. Save them. When you want
to use a custom WAD, Select the checkmark gadget labelled "Use Cust. WADS"
on the main "Game" group. This will cause DoomGATE to bring up a listview
while starting Doom, so you can (multi)-select WADS to use. If the
custom wad list isn't loaded into DoomGATE when you do this, it
will automatically load.
- Setting Default Command Line Options
- See the paragraph on this above.
- Settings Page
- Click LOAD to load in your .doomrc before you try to edit anything :-)
Its not loaded in at the startup because it takes a few seconds.
- WADS Page
- Same for the Custom WAD list, LOAD them before you try to use them :-)
- Network Page
- You need TCP: to offer and fetch settings. ATM it can only show you
the other persons settings, not match them yet. If something goes wrong,
click Unbodge to free up your Offer button :-) If you try to fetch
settings from someone who isn't offering, type is output some junk, just
close the CON: that appears and stuff :-) Uses TCP port 5152. Will be
cleaned up soon.
