PACKAGE: base
VERSION: 0.93R5

I was browsing around today and came across the vcs(4) man page.
That told me that /dev/vcs{0-8} and /dev/vcsa{0-8) are missing.

Also, I note that they're not supported by the /dev/MAKEDEV script.

Finally, and this is perhaps a don't care item, I note that
MAKEDEV -n {various arguments} complains about not finding
vcs, st, sg, ide0, sd, and sr. Some of these may be alternate
(more standard?) names for /dev files which we do provide.

vcs, st, sg and sd should definitely supported. They are the virtual
console screendup devices, SCSI tape drives, SCSI generic devices and
SCSI disks respectively.

I don't know about ide0. sr is an alternative name for scd, the SCSI
CD-ROM devices.

The MAKEDEV I have (0.93R5) does appear to work with some of these.
However, it has a tendency to print out (if not run as root) messages
like:
 mknod: st0-: Operation not permitted
which make me rather suspicious. If I invoke it as root is seems to
DTRT.

Ian.
