Hi!

Problems I noted regarding TERMCAP:

1-
I think it is necessary to have tset installed, in order to export
correctly the vars TERMCAP, LINES, COLUMNS. I could not make GIT
work without tset. Anyway, I'm not a TERMCAP expert, but, usually, tset
is a "standard" in base systems.

2-
The only way to have a "clear" program is installing ncurses-runtime.
The problem is that I DON'T want to install ncurses-runtime and
DO want a "clear" program. Can't you provide a TERMCAP version of
"clear"?

3-
The termcaps in /etc/termcaps are a mess! The descriptions of con80x30,
e.g., has fewer "capabilities" than con80x25 (and no, there is not a "tc=").
Is there anyone working on a decent termcap?

4-
The setterm utility would be fine. It could be called, e.g., by
/etc/init.d/console to set the blanking time and a lot of other things.

5-
This one regards ncurses-runtime package:

% tput init

or

% tput reset

core dumps.

I'm at your disposal if you want more info. Regards,

Thank you for the problem report you have sent regarding Debian GNU/Linux.
This is an automatically generated reply, to let you know your message has
been received. It is being forwarded to the developers' mailing list for
their attention; they will reply in due course.

If you wish to submit further information on your problem, please send
it to debian-bugs@pixar.com, but please ensure that the Subject
line of your message starts with "Bug#836" or "Re: Bug#836" so that
we can identify it as relating to the same problem.

Please do not reply to the address at the top of this message,
unless you wish to report a problem with the bug-tracking system.

Your message didn't have a Package: line at the start (in the
pseudo-header following the real mail header), or didn't have a
psuedo-header at all.

This makes it much harder for us to categorise and deal with your
problem report; please ensure that you say which package(s) and
version(s) the problem is with next time. Some time in the future the
problem reports system may start rejecting such messages.
