<blush>
oops I trapped into an alias when I tried 'type -p ls'. Any idea how
to write a little `which' script that captures alias definitions

Thanks for correcting this, Bill.

This should read 'type -path' according to the manpage and the on-line help I
have here with Debian's bash-1.14.4-2.

There should be a simple `which' script in miscutils, which invokes
bash's `type -p'.

`which' is not just used by people, it is also a very useful command
in scripts, and it seems silly to use a bash-ism when so many systems
have a perfectly good `which' command.

I've reported this as a bug (as readers of debian-devel will see).
