Package: manpages
Version: 1.8-1

- I couldn't find a source package. Its contents wouldn't differ that
much from the binary package, but this is still confusing.

- /usr/doc/copyright/manpages doesn't mention an FTP site for the
original distribution. (I suppose that these manpages were
collected outside of the Debian project.)

- /usr/doc/copyright/manpages says:

      Copyright information:

Please note that these man pages are distributed under a variety of
copyright licenses. Although these licenses permit free distribution
of the nroff sources contained in this package, commercial distribution
may impose other requirements (e.g., acknowledgement of copyright or
inclusion of the raw nroff sources with the commercial distribution).
If you distribute these man pages commercially, it is your
responsibility to figure out your obligations. (For many man pages,
these obligations require you to distribute nroff sources with any
pre-formatted man pages that you provide.) Each file that contains
nroff source for a man page also contains the author(s) name, email
      address, and copyright notice.

If commercial distribution is prohibited, the manpage belongs into
non-free. Did anyone check this for each manpage ?

It should also mention the address of the manpages maintainer, Andries
Brouwer <aeb@cwi.nl>, to whom all corrections and new manpages should
be sent.

No, but I just have, and there is no problem (I based my search on
manpages-1.8-1.deb).

All of the manpages are fine to distribute if you supply nroff
source. If you don't you're in deep water, but we do.

I went through all of the manpages and categorised their copyright
notices. There was one file missing a copyright licence:
man2/getgroups.2, which did say it was written by Rik Faith - you
(Andries) should contact him privately to get him to confirm that it
should have the `Rik Faith manual copyright message' in it.

Andries, could you include this information in the next manpages
release ? It might be worth our manpages maintainer incorporating it
manually.

I noticed that there were two LILO manpages in the package. Surely
Werner should be maintaining those, and shipping them with LILO ?

Ian.
