Agreed. Some other fellow reported a similar bug under MS-DOS: if secring.pgp
is write-protected, PGP displays "Key generation completed", even though it
fails. I haven't looked into it yet, but I'll see what I can do.

I know. ;)

Bill Mitchell writes in Debian GNU/Linux bug report #1103 against
PGP 2.6.2i:

Clearly the program should abort, rather than claiming to have
completed successfully.

I would have provided a patch, but last time I looked at the PGP code
it was a complete nightmare, and I don't trust myself to touch it.

If/when you reply to this message (or forward it to the MIT bug
address) could you please preserve the start of the Subject line and
the CC to debian-bugs@pixar.com ? That'll allow our bug tracking
system to file your messages along with the original report.

Regards,
Ian Jackson.

We need to generate 320 random bits. This is done by measuring the
time intervals between your keystrokes. Please enter some random text
on your keyboard until you hear the beep:
 -Enough, thank you.
.......................**** ...............****
Can't create output file '/root/.pgp/secring.pgp'
Can't create output file '/root/.pgp/pubring.pgp'
Key generation completed.
