Subject: kbd reinstall breaks console setup, setfont scrambles display
Package: kbd
Version: 0.90-3
I recently upgraded the kbd package, and was asked whether to install
a new rc.boot/console file. Since I hadn't edited it myself, I said
yes.
The results were that:
(a) the keyboard map loaded at boot-time reverted from uk to us.
(b) the `setfont' command that I had commented out was reenabled.
I had commented out the setfont because it scrambles the console
display completely. I don't know why it does this. I also don't see
why it is necessary to run setfont at all - surely the default should
be not to use it ?
In general, configuration files whose contents are generated by
prompting the user should *not* be shipped as a file in the package
and listed in conffiles, but should instead be handled entirely in the
pre/post-inst/rm scripts.
Ian.
