I agree that it is simpler to ignore bug reports and close them. If
there was a path problem then perhaps the bug report should be
reclassified as a base problem. I was using a freshly installed
Debian system. I did not change the default path. However, this
problem may no longer exist due to base package revisions.

For the sake of simplicity I assume that the problem was due to a
wrong contents of the environment variable PATH.
(This is known to cause similiar problems.)
