mIRC Script Server IRCd

Category: Networking, IRC Tools, mIRC Addon Scripts

Title: mIRC Script Server IRCd 5

Format: Win OS

Description: When I first loaded this script I was lost for words. It's a script to turn your mIRC into an IRC server. You have many options to play around with, for example changing the name of the server and the channel services like ChanServ, NickServ etc and also a great bot called Y resembling UnderNet's W and X bots. The bot cannot be kicked, deoped or killed. You may set this option on for yourself too if you are an IRCop. Documentation explains the basics of running the server and performing maintenance. I suppose there isn't any need to explain the channel services in more detail as most people know how to use them from experience of other IRC networks. The script seems to be quite efficient but there is a big question mark on its performance when there is a large number of users. Bugs are very limited but are still evident. The Y bot cannot join a channel if it is banned. This is a big issue and should be worked on. A banned user cannot join a channel if he's invited, unlike most other networks.

mIRC Script Server

Category: Networking, IRC Tools, mIRC Addon Scripts

Title: mIRC Script Server 4

Format: Win OS

Description: Very original addon that allows you to run your own IRC server without the use of an external program and also includes some basic services. You do not need to be connected to the net, in which case, the server will default to 127.0.0.1 and will allow you to test scripts. I found the readme files (in French and English) helpful both in installation instructions and explanations as to what this script does. Once loaded, you can use popups to control your server, the built in services and the "eggdrop". When I mean control I mean turning them on, shutting them off, etc. While this script is very practical and the extra services were a nice touch, it's a far cry from an actual IRC server. There are a number of commands that don't exist and even most of the user modes are nonexistant. The only user modes that I could use were +i and +o (oper priviledges). In addition, it didn't allow me to send global messages or wallops. OperServ says that "Only Services Operators have access to Operserv." And ye

mIRC Telnet

Category: Networking, IRC Tools, mIRC Addon Scripts

Title: mIRC Telnet 1

Format: Win OS

Description: mIRC telnet client through custom window. *Advanced* users only. The author included a readme file on how to install the script. It states that the addon has popup support (menubar section), but it doesn't have that. You can start the script by using the "/telnet" command. I don't really consider this as a telnet script since you can do anything you want with it really. It basically establishes a connection with the host of your choice on a certain port. As long as you know all the commands for the different protocols, you can literally do anything you want, such as ftp. However, it's not really possible do use anything like PINE since the custom window does not really have any support for that kind of program. The coding is alright, clean and easy to read. Not really practical, IMHO. It would have been helpful if the author could have found some of the raw commands for the various protocols or at least given reference to a URL that has a list of them.

mIRC password protection

Category: Networking, IRC Tools, mIRC Addon Scripts

Title: mIRC password protection 4.2

Format: Win OS

Description: Addon that allows you to set a password which will be required to be typed out when you first start mIRC, it also includes an interesting screensaver made by a picture custom window. Unfortunately, the author didn't include any documentation with this addon, however, it seems to be relatively easy to use once you have loaded it into remotes. The script also informs you of what it is doing by echoing its actions to the status window and the popup menu available in the menubar. The script seems to work reasonable well eventhough the actual function itself is obsolete with the newer versions of mIRC. The password itself is saved into the mirc.ini file which makes the constant opening & closing of mIRC (that the author uses to save the information) a bit tedious. The screensaver is an interesting bit of work, but only works if you are connected to a server. The coding is alright, eventhough the use of local aliases & variables might have helped a bit. I would also recommend that the author use "re

mIRC-Agent

Category: Networking, IRC Tools, mIRC Addon Scripts

Title: mIRC-Agent

Format: Win OS

Description: Small agent addon that allows you to "monitor" a channel or a user by making the agent that you have loaded say everything that is being typed into the window in question. Popup menus galore that allow you to explore the various actions available to the different agents. The author wrote a rather informative help file on how the different commands for the agents work and included at least an example for each command. While using the script, everything appears to be working but there are a lot of areas to be improved IMHO. First of all, when monitoring a channel, the agent really should also first say WHO exactly is talking instead of just blabbering out all the text coming through the channel. Also, the author should use the period (.) to silence all the /gtalk and other commands. Currently, my status is being flooded with messages such as: "* Agent 'Peedy' talks: i need help.." (I'm hanging out in #HelpDesk ;). The coding is clean but rather repetetive and there are things to fix such as the
