kickpro

Category: Networking, IRC Tools, mIRC Addon Scripts

Title: kickpro 1

Format: Win OS

Description: A simple addon that will rejoin a channel after you were kicked from it and kick the person who kicked you if you become a channel operator. Nothing much to say about this script, it works though. The documentation was short and sweet, it explains how to load the script. Saying what the script actually does would be nice though. In addition some additional configuration for the script would be nice. For exmaple, it uses user levels 10 and 20 as well as the variable %kicker. I am sure there are many other scripts out there which use these. Using more appropriate variable names (suck as %_kickpro_kicker) and named user levels would be a good idea, or at least give the user a clearer method of specifying the user levels to use so there is no interference with other scripts. The coding could have been better, a large portion of it checks if the kicker is a bot or channel service, divided up into a half dozen lines in form "if (chanserv isin $nick) { halt }." It would have been nicer to see these c

m3u

Title: m3u

Format: Win OS

Description: Simple MP3 player (requires Winamp) with dialog interface. The zip file has an interesting *.doc file whose name tells you to load one of the other two *.mrc files first. However, when opened, the doc file itself was blank. This file takes up a bit of space, so IMHO, the author could have found another way to get his setup instructions across. ;) Or is it just me? Running Microsoft Office 2000 .. The dialog window is very clean and quite self explanatory - as the author also pointed out. It allows you to set a playlist directory and also a MP3 directory. The sections entitled "Setup" and "Playlist" appear to be the same thing, which confused me. The addon allows you to play and stop playing the mp3s of your choice through the dialog interface. You can also chose to save the list of mp3s in a filename of your choice (file extension is not automatically included). The coding is quite compact for the most part but quite adequate. However, the author could have used more script specific variable n

mICQ

Title: mICQ 0.98

Format: Win OS

Description: Interesting mIRC addon that allows you to send messages/pages to an ICQ user. You only need to know their UIN. The documentation is quite alright, with installation instructions and even a seperate file explaining some of the limitations of ICQ through using this script. There is also some documentation within the script and the dialog is easy to understand & use. Popups also available. From what I can tell, the script appears to work fairly well. You have the ability to add different users along with their UIN to a list for easy use. You may also chose to add a signature along with a default nickname and email address. A little quirk of this entire system is that your IP address is prominently displayed whenever you send a message. Some of you might not like that .. The script changes your current nickname and email address to what you just set your default email and address to. You *can* send a message with a nickname & email other than the default one, but you would have to change it again.

mIRC BitchX cdcc clone

Title: mIRC BitchX cdcc clone 1

Format: Win OS

Description: Addon for chosing a list of files and making them available to other users through CTCP. Commonly referred to as xdcc as well. While the addon does contain numerous files, I didn't find them very informative on how to use the script. They also had extensions and names that might have made it difficult to even figure out that they were information files and that may have caused some problems opening them for newbies. The script is relatively easy to use as all the options are available through the channel popups and a main dialog window. It allows you to easily add and remove packs, view the number of gets, filesize, etc. A couple of suggestions that I have for the authour. Perhaps it would be best if you checked if a file is already in the list or not before adding it. Currently, it's very much possible to have the same file, with the same directory, more than once. Also, the use of dynamic popups would likely better your script. It would allow users to easily see the script's current status (

mIRC Lag Check

Category: Networking, IRC Tools, mIRC Addon Scripts

Title: mIRC Lag Check 1

Format: Win OS

Description: Addon script that allows you to check your lag to the server whenever you want. The result is displayed in a custom window through txt and meter form. All you have to do is to load the remote file and type /lag.check which is essentially what the readme file tells you to do. The addon appears to work just fine. I managed to make myself lag by requesting the /who output of a large channel and the addon reflected it appropriately. I find the echos/notes in status (especially for the PONG) quite annoying. Perhaps the author could make that optional. Also, it might be nice to add an option where the script would automatically check the lag every x seconds where x can be specified by the user. Not much code is involved, but it's not bad. Might want to rename the variables and change the alias & custom identifier to local ones though. Other than that, it's great.
