AardVark UUdecode

Category: Networking, IRC Tools, mIRC Addon Scripts

Title: AardVark UUdecode 1

Format: Win OS

Description: Identifier/Alias $uudecode that is used to convert a uuencoded file to it's binary counterpart. Once again, SoapForge's addons can not be used by a newbie. You have to know what you are doing and how you are going to use this tool that he provided, for a tool this most certainly is. The coding itself is well done. Depending your computer, the use of this script may significantly hog processor speed. A short explanation of the script and its syntax is provided at the beginning of the script itself (in the remote file).

Absence Manager

Category: Networking, IRC Tools, mIRC Addon Scripts

Title: Absence Manager 1.3

Format: Win OS

Description: Very nice FRENCH away addon with a host of features such as pager/logging (quite advanced, even allows for statistics and graphical representation), idle-away, ignore list (for people who message you), optional nick change, silent or "normal" away, etc. The addon itself works pretty well even if there are some things about it that I don't really like. First the good stuff: Easy to use with dialog interface and extensive documentation provided internally through the dialog window; the options are for very customizable and there's been quite a bit of error checking; the author appears to like having many options open to you - you can chose to delete messages according to their name/date and only view the last ones; while you are away, you are given a small dialog window which displays the number of messages that you have received and your current status. Some disadvantages of using this script (in my opinion of course :). Some of the options, while customizable, are a bit tedious. For instance,

Ackme Autojoin

Category: Networking, IRC Tools, mIRC Addon Scripts

Title: Ackme Autojoin 1.3

Format: Win OS

Description: Little addon that allows you to specify up to 15 channels, auto-join them on connect if you so chose, auto-join all of them whenever you want or part all of them whenever you want. Popup support. The script has a pretty detailed readme file with setup instructions, author's notes, description of the various features, contact information, etc. The script is controlled through menubar or channel popups. It works from what I can tell and the author also included some error checking. I did not encounter any bugs. If you have 7 channels to add then going into the popup menu and wading through the subsections might get a bit tedious though. Eventhough the script works, I find that the coding is a bit inefficient ... The author could have used loops and aliases to save a lot of lines of code. Also, the variables could have been named a bit better ... Final thing: There is a built-in mIRC command for parting all channels - /partall.

Title: Acronym Replacer 1

Format: Win OS

Description: This script catches text typed into the editbox of a query window and replaced acronyms with what they stand for. The only problem I had was with files being in the right place, and the directories it unzipped into.

Ad Control

Category: Networking, IRC Tools, mIRC Addon Scripts

Title: Ad Control 3.5

Format: Win OS

Description: Addon script with dialog interface that allows you to block private messages and notices that could be web/channel/ftp or server/network spam. The addon has a readme file with setup instructions, a description of the script, possible troubleshooting and contact information. Therefore, installing the addon itself should pose no problems. Upon first loading it, the main dialog window will popup. It is clean and easy to understand .. you will be able to access it in the future by using the channel, status, query or menubar popups. On principle, the addon does what it is supposed to do and I found no problems per se with it. However, there are a few aspects of it that I find inefficient or that I plain don't like .. (;\) For example, the addon will only work if you have the mIRC option of popping up a new window for a new message from someone for example. If you chose to have a single query window, it won't do much. In addition, some flood protection might be nice ... as it sends back a message in
