3-in-a-row

Category: Networking, IRC Tools, mIRC Addon Scripts

Title: 3-in-a-row 0.33

Format: Win OS

Description: Game addon script. The goal is to get your 3 signs (either X or O) in a row while playing against the computer. The author included a nice readme file that explains the game. The principle of it is actually a no-brainer and I don't think that all those instructions were necessary ... but it's nice to have them all the same. :o) You can launch the game by using an alias of the popups (menubar), upon which you will be prompted to chose a symbol: either X or O. The goal of the game is to have your three symbols aligned in a row ... unfortunately, I ran into a pretty big bug *ponder*. I can use as many symbols of mine as I want .. more than 3, so winning is actually pretty easy, heh. Conclusion: Works but might need some work ...

7am News Ticker

Category: Networking, IRC Tools, mIRC Addon Scripts

Title: 7am News Ticker 1

Format: Win OS

Description: Addon script with dialog interface for downloading URLs for various news headlines from http://www.7am.com/ which also allows you to chose various settings such as area-specific news, which site you want them from (CNET, Washington Post, Reuters, etc.). Well done addon with a very complete and easy to understand readme file. The setup instructions are easy and once you get going, the script itself is also easy to use. The dialog windows are clean and everything is supported via popups. If you unzip the script into a directory other than mIRC's default then you will get a warning message, asking you to move the *.ico file into the main mIRC directory. That is something that could have easily been fixed by using the On DIALOG: .. :init: event for loading the icon file from $scriptdir. (*baps Pasmal*). It might also have been a good idea to put default settings for those clueless newbies who haven't read the readme file first ... or at least put another reminder when you first load the file that

AKick Manager

Category: Networking, IRC Tools, mIRC Addon Scripts

Title: AKick Manager 1

Format: Win OS

Description: An addon to add misbehave users into your "blacklist". It will kick and ban the user who has matched address in autokick list. The addon has a quite informative readme file, telling you how to load and how to use the addon. The addon is based on mIRC's userlist, which means all autokick listed users will be listed within mIRC's userlist (under Users tab in mIRC Editor). You can access the addon from channel popup or menubar popup. Addresses can be added within the dialog, you must add address mask like something*!*@*.something.net. The addon allows you to select 6 exempt channels so the addon won't kick the users. Beside that, it also allow you to pick an action when an autokick listed user join a channel that you don't have op. It would be better if the author used INI file or hash table to store the exempted channels list. But it's all personal preference. The coding is alright, the author should try using local aliases and while loops, but its not a big deal =) Good work, but there's still

ATelnet MUD Client

Category: Networking, IRC Tools, mIRC Addon Scripts

Title: ATelnet MUD Client 1

Format: Win OS

Description: A basic telnet/MUD client written as an mIRC script supporting features like ANSI colors. This script was mainly designed for MUD's (online games vie telnet). It allows you to maintain a list of configurable words which can be autocompleted using the tab key. It also includes a variety of other features which are useful for automating common actions in a MUD. The documentation was quite thourough and the coding was fairly well done, although using local aliases rather than obscure names would be a little more sensical.

ATelnet

Title: ATelnet 2

Format: Win OS

Description: ATelnet is a very comprehensive and customisable telnet script. It also has support for those out there that still play on MUDs. A very lengthy readme is included. Aliases, replacements, trigger words, and tab words all feature in this telnet addon. The documentation is very complete, almost to a point where I couldn't bear it. While having a readme is a good thing, this 29k readme file would have been better used as an HTML file. The bulky nature of the readme is reiterated by the popups, which are large and not very friendly. The script is easy to use, just /telnet and you are off. This addon also escapes such typical mIRC problems as how to just send a TAB, or a linefeed, etc... The code is basically bug free, as far as I tested. However one thing that continued to frustrate me was that there were far too many popups for options and settings, while dialogs would have been far more appropriate. Also, the popups did not show you which option (on/off) was currently selected for a setting. All
