2D and 3D Gfx Unification (Part 2)

As we have promised in the previous issue, here'll show various methods to create our game levels, showing all pros and cons.

Mainly, we have 2 methods, both valid, and it's up to our needs to choose one or the other.

The first is more simple, and that you just render all parts of the path, and then you join all pictures together.

PRO: Better gfx impact, impressive variety in the level, easy creation process.

CONS: Wrong perspective.

The second one is longer, lesser beautyful to see, but it is the most used and it is the only one to be used if you want to create a Platform... and it is the same used by Donkey Kong Country.

We have to cut blocks with our "pieces" to paste them later with a Map Editor. We'll have a sort of axonometry.

PRO: Capability of using maps in platform games, bigger maps, real axonometry (and so beatyful to see).

CONS: Not the better gfx you could have, real 3D would be better.

And here we show how to create blocks.

Load up Lightwave Modeler and load a single block.

Now use the DRAG option and increase points to create a slope, how you can see in the example picture.

With a bit of patience, we can create other blocks, such as bridges, rocks and other useful blocks.

Now we salute you! Let's see in the next issue!

Example Picture

Here there is just a littel example of what you should be able to create with a bit of time.

Warning

Create different levels and blocks and send us the material (logically, everything will remain under your own copyright) we'll do a selection and better works will be prized with Amiga Blast Best Pic!!!

Even more, best blocks will be used, if possible, to create a real platform game, it will be Public Domain or Shareware even better than Donkey Kong Country!!
