2D Gfx Tutorial

The first issue of Amiga Blast tried to give you the capability to take full advantage of the graphics capacity of the machine to acheive fabulous games.

Careful attention must be payed regarding what you are going to read below if you want to easily create games like DRAGON STONE, CHAOS ENGINE, ZELDA.

WHAT YOU SHOULD HAVE :

2D PROGRAM ( BRILLANCE, DPAINT, CLOANTO PAINT ECC.)

Those new to drawing should make sure they already know some basilar commands ( TRASPARENCY, SMOOTH, BRUSH ECC.)

First of all we need to organize our Palette.

Using the right mouse button you have to access the menu Palette ( type P if Brillance or Dpaint ); now we have to place these colours:

 -Col. N: 0 - RGB: 0.0.0
 -Col. N: 1 - RGB: 0,0,1
 -Col. N: 4 - RGB: 11,51,56
 -Col. N: 12 - RGB: 132,178,20
 -Col. N: 17 - RGB: 255,255,255

By a SPREAD option we are now ready to find shades between colours 4 and 1, 4 and 12, 12 and 17.

Draw a 16x16 pixels solid rectangular. It'll be our graphic mask. Copy it like a BRUSH a lot of times ( in the example the first white box in every line).

Draw inside some pixels of different shades ( in the example the A box ).

If you use a SMOOTH option on your box we can see a pleasant colour's shade like in the example.

You have now to outline your Box with a Black and create a light effect on the upper left by using a White.

Put now your block onto another part of the screen, use these options: TRASPARENCY and SOLID BOX. Select a white colour and activate the two options described above, use the withe colour onto our block (number 1 in our demo picture ).

Copy our original block (not the white one) and repeat the same operation changing the WHITE colour with a BLACK one (number 2 in our demo picture ).

Blit our original block and draw some clefts or something like these with a BLACK colour and with TRANSPARENCE active (number 3 in our demo picture ).

With a similar operation to the one described above, colour half block in BLACK.

Now, we have to draw our castle's WALLS.

Copy our mask and create shadings going from LIGHT BLUE to DARK BLUE. Above them draw some bricks how described in our demo picture (n. 5)

We have ended the first 2D Gfx lesson.

Now load our demo pic 2D_TOTAL.GIF to see how created blocks can be used. Create new blocks similar to these ones.
