It's online and going at last! I've been working on Amithyst, in one form or another, for well over a year now, and it's hard to believe it's actually done. And a lot has happened in the time it's taken to get Amithyst up and running. Originally it was intended to be a paper fanzine, called Black Anvil, for Games Workshop miniatures, and the first issue of that actually went out, albeit only to five people. But the hastle of getting it all printed and put together prevented us from getting past the first issue. After this things died down for a while and the idea faded away. But then I got into disk mags, and decided I wanted to do one of them. I scoured the PD libraries for disk mag creators and bought one or two that took my interest. I tried to set to work making a disk mag with The Insane Limits, who at that time was known, much to his embarisment now, as Technical Frog (I don't think I ever quite grasped the thinking behind that). But alas I was not happy. None of the disk mag creators I tried gave me a decent graphical interface. In the end the only thing I could find that would give me the flexibility I wanted was good old AmigaGuide.

This was the point where it started to be known as Amithyst (don't ask me why, it just sounded nice and had Ami at the front). We got quite far with this part, and decided to advertise for some help on the Internet. And boy did we get a response! It's just a pity we didn't get more than one. But the one we did get was an offer to put it onto the Internet if it was in HTML format. We had already been considering this, and put in our advert that it was a possibility. So now that we had this offer we started converting it into HTML, and realised that this was a much better solution. And so here we are!

As I'm writing this my millenium count down, er, thing tells me there are just 616 days until the big two-oh-oh-oh. Hopefully by then the Amiga will be as popular as a very popular thing indeed, and with any luck, so will Amithyst. But in order for this to happen we need you to send us things to put in it. See the submissions section for more details.

This issue I have been mostly...

Playing: Myst
Watching: Babylon 5, series 5 on TV! (Channel 4, Sunday lunchtime). Where the hell did that come from all of a sudden?
Hearing: WHAT she gonna look like with a chimney on her?
Reading: Meg by Steve Alten
Wanting: Amiga conversion of Grand Theft Auto
Annoyed by: Not receiving the registered version of Voyager-NG despite ordering it over four months ago, AND sending a letter to remind them
