============================== FRENCH GUIANA ============================== Guiana (French) or Guyane is situated on the northeast coast of South America. The climate is tropical with heavy rainfall. Guiana's economy relies almost completely on subsidies from France. It has little to export apart from shrimps, and the small area of land that is cultivated produces rice, manioc and sugar cane. It is well known for the infamous, now defunct, penal colony of ~Devil's Island~. The best weather is from July to December. There are short rain showers from December to February, drizzle in March and heavy rainstorms from April to July. Average temperature is only 80F but high humidity makes things very sticky. Carnival celebrations take place most weekends from January to Mardi Gras (February or March). From the Friday before Mardi Gras to Ash Wednesday most towns are celebrating nonstop. Area (Sq.
