============================== BOLIVIA ============================== Bolivia is a landlocked republic of central South America through which the great mountain range of the Andes runs. On the undulating Altiplano depression is the highest capital city in the world, La Paz. To the east and northeast of the mountains is a huge area of lowland containing tropical rain- forests and wooded savanna. The northeast has a heavy rainfall while in the southeast it is negligible. Temperatures vary with altitude from extremely cold on the summits to cool on the Altiplano, where at least half the population lives. Although rich in natural resources, e.g. oil, tin, Bolivia is not rich because of lack of funds for their extraction. Bolivian temperatures are largely determined by altitude. The rainy season runs from October to March and it is usually dry for the remainder of the year. Area (Sq.
