============================== ST. KITTS AND NEVIS ============================== The islands of St. Christopher (popularly known as St. Kitts) and Nevis lie in the Leeward group in the eastern Caribbean. St. Kitts consists of three extinct volcanoes linked by a sandy isthmus to other volcanic remains in the south. Sugar is the chief export crop, but market gardening and livestock rearing are being expanded on the steeper slopes above the cane fields. Nevis, 3km south, is an extinct volcano. Farming is declining there, and tourism is now the main source of income. Area (Sq.
