============================== NICARAGUA ============================== Nicaragua is the largest of the countries situated on the isthmus of Central America and lies between Honduras and Costa Rica. The east coast contains forested lowland and is the wettest part of the country. The western mountainous region, which contains two huge lakes, Nicaragua and Managua, is where most of the population live. The whole country is subject to devastating earthquakes. Nicaragua is primarily an agricultural country. The main export crops are coffee, cotton and sugar cane. It enjoys very mild winters with regular rainfall. Area (Sq. Visitors are advised to take sensible precautions when walking, particularly in the markets and poorer areas of the town, especially in the vicinity of the old Cathedral. Walking alone after dark is not advised. Pickpockets and thieves operate on public transport. Some areas of the North continue to be dangerous. Travel at night should be avoided and local advice sought before leaving the main road. Travellers from countries where Yellow Fever is endemic (including the countries between Panama and Bolivia) must have a valid vaccination certificate to enter the country.
