============================== MOLDAVIA ============================== Moldavia was a Soviet republic until 1991 when it became independent of the former USSR. It is bounded to the west by Romania and to the north, east and south by Ukraine. It consists of a hilly plain of fertile soils, and crops grown include wheat, corn, barley, tobacco, sugar beet, soya beans and sunflowers. There are also extensive fruit orchards, vineyards and walnut groves. Beekeeping and silkworm breeding are widespread throughout the country. Food processing is the main industry. Area (Sq.
