============================== DENMARK ============================== Denmark is a small European state lying between the North Sea and the entrance to the Baltic. It consists of a western peninsula and an eastern archipelago of 406 islands, only 89 of which are populated. It has warm sunny summers and cold cloudy winters. The scenery is very flat, low-lying and monotonous, but the soils are good and a wide variety of crops can be grown. Animal husbandry is, however, the most important activity, its produce including the famous Danish bacon and butter. It produces a wide range of manufactured goods and is famous for its imaginative design of furniture, silverware and porcelain. Area (Sq. Flights also go daily from Heathrow to Copenhagen and there are good links to most provincial airports. Denmark is a major target for motoring holiday tourists who use the well developed ferry system to hop from island to island. Although actual travel to Denmark can be reasonable, the cost of living is much higher than in the UK, although not as high as some other Scandinavian countries. There are many supermarkets etc. and self-catering holidays are a good option. Farm house, chalet and Danish 'Pool' houses are all variations on the self-catering theme. Short tours to Copenhagen as a city break are popular especially by air. For the family a trip to the famous Legoland is good value (there may soon be a Legoland opening in the UK!). Denmark is a friendly, clean and welcoming country, many Danes speak English and have a strong affection for the UK.
