============================== NORTH KOREA ============================== North Korea occupies just over half the Korean peninsula in east Asia. It is a mountainous country, three-quarters of which is forested highland or scrubland. The climate is warm temperate, although winters can be cold in the north. Most rain falls during the summer. Nearly 90% of its arable land is farmed by cooperatives, on which rice is the main crop grown. North Korea is quite well endowed with fuel and minerals including iron ore. Some 60% of the labour force are employed in industry, the most important of which are metallurgy, building cement and chemicals. Area (Sq.
