The heart of the country is saucer-shaped, and gently rolling alluvial plains are drained by the Mekong river. The Dangrek Mountains form the frontier with Thailand in the northwest. It has a tropical monsoon climate, and about half the land is tropical forest. Crop production depends entirely on the rainfall and floods, but production was badly disrupted during the civil war, and yields still remain low. Area (Sq.
