============================== TUNISIA ============================== Tunisia is a North African country consisting of hills, plains and valleys in the northern central mountains and the Sahara Desert in the south. Climate ranges from warm temperate in the north to desert in the south. Some 40% of the population are engaged in agriculture. The mainstay of Tunisia's modern economy, however, is oil from the Sahara, phosphates, and tourism on the Mediterranean coast. Area (Sq. Km.): 163,610 Population: 8,095,000 Capital: Tunis Language: Arabic Religion: Moslem 99% Government Type: Republic Currency: Tunisian dinar Embassy: 29 Princess Gate, London, SW7 1QG. 0171-823-7749 A good holiday destination if you want lazy, long hot days on the beach and not a lot else. The hotels are of excellent standard, many built in typical Moorish style and all usually close to the beach. Nightlife is limited and is normally centred in the hotels where all the bars are anyway. The beaches are beautiful and the Tunisian climate allows winter and summer sun holidays. Self-catering has become more available over the last few years, but because of the paucity of shops is not particularly recommended.
