============================== NAMIBIA ============================== Namibia is situated on the Atlantic coast of southwest Africa. There are three main regions in the country. Running down the entire Atlantic coastline is the Namib Desert, east of which is the Central Plateau of mountains, rugged outcrops, sandy valleys and poor grasslands. East again and north is the Kalahari Desert. Namibia has a poor rainfall, the highest falling at Windhoek. Even here it amounts to only 200mm per year. It is essentially a stock-rearing country, with sheep and goats raised in the south, cattle in the central and northern areas. Diamonds are mined just north of the River Orange, and the largest open groove uranium mine in the world is located near Swakopmund. One of Africa's richest fishing grounds lies off the coast of Namibia, and mackerel, tuna and pilchards are an important export. Area (Sq.
