============================== CAMEROON ============================== Cameroon is a triangular- shaped country of diverse landscapes in west central Africa. It stretches from Lake Chad at its apex to the northern borders of Equatorial Guinea, Gabon and the Congo in the south. The climate is equatorial with high temperatures and plentiful rain. The majority of the population lives in the south where they grow maize and vegetables. In the drier north, where drought and hunger are well known, life is harder. Bananas, coffee and cocoa are the major exports. Area (Sq. Do NOT travel outside towns at night. Highway robberies, especially in the three northern provinces continue to be a problem and travellers are at risk on the stretch of road between Waza and the border crossing with Chad at Kousseri. Before embarking on this journey, travellers should seek advice from the local police and be prepared to travel with a military escort. Other parts of the country remain relatively calm and there are no travel restrictions. For more information ring: Foreign Office Travel Unit 0171-270-4129
