THE IMAGE CONVERTER Clicking the CONVRT button on the Main Interface Panel (or pressing F4) will start Image Converter Mode, for converting IFF pictures to the 5-color pictures that Stereopticon can use as a plane. (There are many PD image- processing programs that can convert pictures in other formats to IFF.) The conversion process takes three steps. (1) ENTERING THE CONVERSION CODE: A screen will appear in which you enter a code to adjust the appearance of the converted picture. Beginners should simply click the OK button to enter the default setting and go on to Step 2. More advanced users should read {[A09,0,7]ENTERING THE CONVERSION CODE}. (2) SELECTING THE PICTURE: When the {[A19,0,7]file requester} appears, use it to find a low-resolution non-AGA IFF picture up to 32 colors and 1023x1023 pixels. Click on the file name, then click OK. (3) GRABBING THE PICTURE: When the picture loads, beginners once again should simply press RETURN (or click the ALL button). You can also grab just a part of the picture as in {[A11,0,7]PROCESSING THE ARTWORK}. Once the conversion starts, you can abort the process and return to the converter control panel by clicking the ABORT button or pressing ESC. Otherwise, a bell will sound when the procedure is complete, and the file requester will reappear for an IFF save. KEYBOARD SUBSTITUTES (Converter Screen): HELP, EXIT buttons..................................HELP, ESC keys Remove/regain cursor................................TAB key Remove cursor/update preview........................RETURN key OK button (when cursor is absent)...................O key {[0,0,1](A)} BATCH CONVERSION MODE: This mode lets you convert any number of pictures in one batch. When you click the BATCH button, you'll be given the choice of Writing a Conversion Script, Executing a Conversion Script, or Cancelling. (Keyboard substitutes: W, E, ESC.) WRITING A SCRIPT: If you choose this option, a file requester will appear. Select a location and type in a name for your script, then click OK. For each picture you want to add to the script, the file requester will appear, the picture you select will load, and a grabber option will appear (see {[A11,0,7]PROCESSING THE ARTWORK}), giving you the option to grab the entire picture or just part. Click the CANCEL button in the file requester to end the script. All pictures in a script must be the same size and mode. You can also use a text editor to write or edit a script. No blank lines, spaces, indentations, or remarks are allowed. Here's an example: SCRIPT EXPLANATION socs File ID code (StereOpticon Conversion Script) dh1:animals/owl Picture file 1 121 X1 90 Y1 Coordinates of grabbed rectangle 280 X2 (X2 & Y2 must be larger than X1 & Y1) 190 Y2 dh1:animals/fox Picture file 2 90 10 202 78 EXECUTING A SCRIPT: First enter a valid conversion code, then click BATCH, then Execute... Choose a script with the file requester. Stereopticon will then convert each picture and save the conversion in the same drawer with the suffix ".CNV". A bell will sound when the last picture has been saved.
