SLICE, lets you use one object to cut shapes out of another object. In this demo, we will use Slice to create faces for a star shaped outline. We'll create the star outline by starting with an axis and adding lines. The object that will do the cutting, must have depth, so, it will be extruded. Now, we can simply add a primitive plane object, which will provide the faces. TIP: Minimizing the number of sections provides better results. Make sure that the plane is large enough to cover the star outline. Make sure that the two objects intersect, but that no points overlap. Before slicing, the objects must be picked in correct order: First, pick the object that is going to be cut. The plane is already picked. Then the cutting object, the star, must be picked while holding the SHIFT key. The star outline will now be used to cut out a star shape from the plane. Select SLICE. After a few moments, you should have a group of pieces. PAUSED: Press Space when the process is completed. In PICK GROUPS mode, proceed by selecting PICK ALL, then select UNGROUP. We can now select each individual piece and pick the ones we need. Use Delete to get rid of the unnecessary pieces. The new, solid Star shape can now be extruded to give it depth. Or you can just leave it flat. We could have used a sphere instead of a plane for a rounded star shape. Try it! Demonstration Completed!
