THE VIKINGS
Although the actual meaning of the word "viking" is still in disupute, it is
used to describe Scandinavian pirates,explorers and settlers who swept
through Europe between the 6th to 9th centuries overthrowing and
establishing kingdoms. They settled Iceland and Greenland and also may have
discovered North America which they called Vinland. In England the area of
Viking control was termed the Danelaw.
