1923 MUNICH PUTSCH

In 1923, the Nazis under Hitler, together with other militant German
nationalist groups including one led by General Erich Ludendorf attempted
to seize power by force in Munich and institute a march on Berlin in
imitation of Mussolini's "March on Rome". The putsch was put down by
the Munich and Hitler was arrested and imprisoned and the Nazi party
temporarily banned.
