Homer is a legendary Greek epic poet, the tradional author of both the
Iliad and the Odyssey. According to tradition he was a blind wandering
minstrel ; seven cities claim to be his birthplace, while he has been
given dates ranging from the 11th to the 7th centuries BC.

The Iliad tells of an incident at the siege of Troy, the death of Hector
and the wrath of Achilles. The Odyssey continues with the wanderings of
Odysseus after the end of the Trojan war.
