THE GUNPOWDER PLOT
                           
The Catholic conspiracy to blow up Parliament and King James 1st was discovered
on November 5th. Guy Fawkes, a Catholic Yorkshireman was found beneath the
cellars of the Houses of Parliament and arrested. Seven others besides
Guy Fawkes were arrested, tortured and executed. The occassion is still
celebrated every November 5th on "Bonfire Night" in England, when a mock
Guy Fawkes is burnt.
