THE GOTHS

The Goths were an East Germanic people who settled on the shores of the
Black Sea, about the 2nd century AD. One branch, the Ostrogoths, was
conquered by the Huns (see Attila) c370 AD, while another, the Visigoths
moved on to Thrace. The latter raided Greece & Italy (see Alaric) then
set up a South eastern France Kingdom. Expelled by the Franks, they moved
to Spain & established a new kingdom there. The Goths disappeared as a
nation around 555 AD.
