ROMAN  CONSULS

                            
The Consuls were the chief magistrates of Ancient Rome following the last
king in 510BC. Two Consuls were elected annually, both of equal power.They
jointly held full civil power at Rome, and the chief military command when
on campaign. After the establishment of the Roman empire and the first
emperor, Augustus, the role of Consul became purely honorary.
