CONSTANTINE THE GREAT (AD274 - 337) First Christian Emperor of Rome, and founder of Constantinnople. Acclaimed Emperor in York by the troops, firstly as emperor of Britain and Gual only was was soon recognized as emperor of all Rome after his crushing victory at Battle of Milvian Bridge(312 AD). He is reputed to have seen a sign which converted him to Christianity. He moved his capital to Constantinople in 330 AD and died fighting the Persians in Asia Minor in 337.
