MARTIN LUTHER
(1483-1546)
Founder of Protestantism. Born in Germany at Eisleben. Ordained a priest in
1507. He revolted at corruption within the Roman Catholic church and in 1517
came out in revolt against it. He was excommunicated and launched the
Protestant religion. He married an ex-nun in 1525. He was also a prodigious
writer.
