AZTECS
An American Indian race , predominant in Mexico at the time of the Spanish
conquest in 1519. In Ad1325 they settled on the marshy island of
Tenochtitlan which became their capital. Under Motezuma I, who reigned from
1440 they conquered most of Mexico. Their rule came to an end with the
cnquest of Mexico by Ferdinadez Cortes in 1519.
