CONSTANTINOPLE
The former capital of the Eastern Roman and Turksih Empires now named
Istanbul. It was founded by Constantine the Great and became the seat of
Imperial government in 330AD. An attack by the Turks in 1422 proved
unsuccesful, but after a gallant defence lasting nearly a year another
Turkish army took the city by storm on 29th May 1453.
