PLEASE EXIT AND RESTART WINDOWS BEFORE RUNNING WINTUNE, ESPECIALLY
IF YOU RECEIVED A WARNING MESSAGE DURING SETUP.

*******************************************************
Video Problems: If WINTUNE generates a General Protection Fault
(GPF) while performing a full video test, it's probably because your
video driver has one or more serious bugs. See the 'Video Problems'
section of the help file for more information.
*******************************************************
CPU speed: If WinTune indicates a different clock rate than your
machine is supposed to have, there are at least three possibilities:
if you have a turbo switch, check to see that it's in the high-speed
position. It's also possible that you're running 1 or more "wait
wait states" in order to operate with slower RAM chips--you can
usually check this using CMOS Setup. Finally, it's possible that
your system isn't as fast as you thought--to find out, run a CPU test,
and compare it with the table in the "Understanding CPU and FPU
Performance" section of the help file.
*******************************************************
Shared Installations: If you are installing Wintune for someone
else, *do not* save the test results when you run the
program, so that the actual user will be prompted through
the guided tour automatically!
*******************************************************
Network Installations: If you are installing WINTUNE on a system that
runs a networked version of Windows (shared SYSTEM directory)
the built-in install may not work. Use EXPAND.EXE to expand
WINTUNE.HL_ to WINTUNE.HLP and search for "Network Installation"
to get instructions for your situation.
*******************************************************
TECH SUPPORT: For WINTUNE 1.0 is available ONLY on America
On-Line (AOL), in the WinMag forum (Test and Tune-up Kit topic in
WinMag's message area) If you don't already have an AOL account,
call them at 1-800-827-6364 and they'll help you out.
*******************************************************

If you were part of our beta program, first off: thank you!
Second, PRIOR TO INSTALLATION OF THIS VERSION,
PLEASE DELETE ANY PREVIOUS WINTUNE PROGRAM MANAGER
GROUP, AND ANY WINTUNE ICONS. PLEASE ALSO DELETE ALL
WINTUNE.CSV FILES FROM YOUR SYSTEM AND DELETE
WINTUNE.INI FROM YOUR WINDOWS DIRECTORY IF THEY EXIST!

General Notes For All Users:

For best accuracy, close down all other programs before
running Wintune.

Wintune assumes that you are using a disk cache, and
uses built-in time delays (default = 6 seconds) to allow
the cache to clear, without interfering with benchmark
timings. If you normally run Windows with a cache, we
recommend you leave the cache enabled while running
Wintune.

You can eliminate or adjust the time delay by running
Wintune from the Program Manager's or File Manager's
File/Run command line. For example:

   c:\wintune\wintune /TXX

where XX is the time delay, in seconds, you desire. A
delay of 0 turns off the time delay entirely. There
should be no spaces or other characters between the /T
and the number of seconds you desire.

All dialog titles have been changed and updated.

Setup has been enhanced, and all new dlls and custom
controls have been incorporated in this release.

Accelerator keys have been added to the menus.

A new menu item was added under the Help menu. This is
"Guided Tour." The 1st time you run Wintune on a system,
Wintune will walk you through a Guided Tour, but you
can take this Guided Tour again at any time by choosing
the Guided Tour choice from the Help menu.

Setup has been enhanced, and all new dlls and custom
controls have been incorporated in this release.

The Details Window's close button has been moved to the
upper portion of the window, next to the Windows Mag
logo. In addition, the "help" button has been replaced
with the help button from the main Wintune window.

A new icon has been added to this release.
