PROGRAM: BINDFIX.EXE
VERSION: 1.00
DATE: 4/8/86

REGARDING: NEW BINDERY REPAIR UTILITY FOR ADV. NETWARE 1.0 OR
HIGHER.

DESCRIPTION: There have been several cases of a file server's binder
y becoming
corrupt if the file server goes down while the bindery was
 being updated. The
internal links within the bindery get partially
updated leaving the bindery in an
invalid state. Once this occurs, d
aily use causes the internal inconsistences to
grow.

SOLUTION: Until now, the only solution was to delete the bindery an
d then
recreate all users, groups and trustee rights. The new bindfi
x program will fix all
bindery inconsistencies. Thes program should
be run by the supervisor in the
SYS:SYSTEM directory. In addition to
 guaranteeing that the internal bindery
format is all consistent, th
e bindfix program also checks that all users have the
properpassword,
group, and security equivalence properties. It also checks that th
e
groups that a user belongs to also agree that the user belongs to t
hem. In
addition to checking the bindery, bindfix also checks mail d
irectories and
trusteerights. Any mail directories that were leftove
r when a user was deleted will
be deleted by bindfix (the syscon prog
ram for Advanced NetWare 1.0 did not delete
the mail directory when a
user was deleted). It also deletes any trustee rights for
users tha
t no longer exist.

The findfix program will save the original bindery in the files
 NET$BIND.OLD and
NET$BVAL.OLD. These files should be deleted after
the supervisor checks that the
repaited bindery is working correctly.
If for some reson it is necessary to restore
the original bindery,
the program bindrest.com will restore the original bindery
files.
