Compatibility Statement:
OS/2 2.0 provides limited compatiblity for running LANtastic NOS 4.xx within a
DOS compatibility session.  Support for the LANtastic SERVER program is not 
currently provided.


Product Overview:
OS/2 2.0 is the latest release of IBM's graphically-based operating system.  It 
is a full 32 bit operating system that provides multi-tasking and multi-
windowing, as well as compatibility with Windows 3.0 and DOS-based applications.
 

Installing LANtastic with OS/2:
You can install LANtastic on a machine that runs OS/2 over either the High 
Performance File System (HPFS) or the DOS FAT file system.  Open the "OS/2 
System" folder from the desktop and select the "Command Prompts" folder.  Choose 
a windowed or full screen DOS session from within this folder.  Once the DOS 
session has started, you may install LANtastic in a workstation configuration as 
detailed in Chapter 3 of the LANtastic NOS User's Manual.  After installing the 
LANtastic files, complete the following steps:

1.  Make a DOS boot diskette.  
	
	A.  At a machine running DOS, format a diskette with the command 

		FORMAT A: /S

	    Note: MS-DOS 5.0 was used during in-house testing.

	B.  Create a CONFIG.SYS file on the boot diskette.  It must contain the 
	following statements:

		DEVICE=FSFILTER.SYS
		FILES=50
		BUFFERS=30
		LASTDRIVE=Z

	C.  Create an AUTOEXEC.BAT file on the boot diskette and include these 
	lines:

		PATH=C:\LANTASTI; C:\DOS;C:\
		C:
		STARTNET

	D.  Copy the file FSFILTER.SYS to the boot diskette from the C:\OS2\MDOS
	directory on the OS/2 machine.  The complete list of files that must be 
	on the boot diskette is:

		COMMAND.COM
		AUTOEXEC.BAT
		CONFIG.SYS
		FSFILTER.SYS

2.  Create a boot image of the boot diskette:

	A.  On the OS/2 PC, place the boot diskette in the appropriate drive, 
	open a DOS or OS/2 window and type the command:

		VMDISK A: C:\DOS\DOS_BOOT.IMG

3.  Create the "Specific Version boot" DOS session icon:

	A.  In the "Command Prompts" folder position the mouse cursor over the 
	"DOS Window" icon and press the right mouse button.  

	B.  Select the Copy option from the menu that appears, then type "DOS 
	Boot Image" or another descripton in the "New Name" field.  

	C.  Press the Copy button to create the new icon.  
	
	D.  Click the right mouse button on the new icon and then click on the 
	right-pointing arrow button that appears next to the "Open" selection.

	E.  Choose the "Settings" selection from that list and ensure that the 
	"Path and file name" field contains an asterisk (*).  

	F.  Select the "Session" page and click on the "DOS Settings" button.  
	Choose the DOS_STARTUP_DRIVE selection from the "Settings" list and type 
	the following in the "Value" field:
		
		C:\DOS\DOS_BOOT.IMG

	G.  Then click on the "Save" button and this will place you back on the 
	Settings page.  

	H. Double-click on the title bar icon (the button with a graphic on it 
	in the upper left corner of the window) to exit back to the system 
	folder.

	I.  Double-clicking on the DOS Boot Image icon will now bring up a DOS 
	window and start LANtastic.

4.  Use LANtastic from within the DOS session just as you would at a DOS-based 
workstation.  Note that disk redirections made within the LANtastic session will 
only be accessible from within that session and not from anywhere else in OS/2 
or other DOS windows.
