Stars 2.0 for Windows 03/17/91 David Stafford CIS 72411,2670 or 76666,2542 MCI DSTAFFORD 361-6512 Kamakura NS Bldg 4-F Onaricho 4-16 Kamakura, Kanagawa 248 Japan This program animates the Windows desktop with stars creating an effect similar to looking through a spaceship window. On slower machines Stars may appear to be a little "jumpy". This is because Stars conserves resources and runs only when the CPU appears to be free. Running Stars a second time will terminate the previous instance. This gives you a chance to close Stars if you selected "Hide icon" from the system menu. If anyone knows how the undocumented Windows function SetDeskPattern works I would appreciate hearing about it. It would be nice if Stars could replace the background pattern for icons when it runs. Until then it's best to select an all-black background from the control panel. Many people told me that the stars in version 1.0 were too small so I have made them a little larger. This version does not include the popup menu as 1.0 did since that functionality has been moved to my Launch program. The current version of Launch (as of this writing) is 1.5. Stars 2.0 is freeware. Enjoy it! If you like it let me know. Please feel free to distribute this program to others. Just be careful and remember to include both files (STARS.EXE and STARS.TXT) together. Possible enhancements for the future: Add command-line switches to control the icon and the initial speed. Use SetDeskPattern to change the background in the icons on the desktop. Make the stars more interesting somehow. Do you have any ideas? -Dave
