QuoteJava Stock Alert System

In the stock game, those who
get the information fast win.

 On first use of QuoteJava, following these steps
  1. Create a new profile for your stocks by choosing  Profile->New profile menu.
  2. Add stock symbols into the profile by choosing Profile->Add ticker menu.
  3. Choose a stock quote option by clicking on the combobox on the toolbar, for example, Datek stands for Datek realtime quotes, other options are for quotes from Yahoo.
  4. Select a set of tickers on the vertical floatbar (shown below at left), and click Quote button on the toolbar. To get quotes for all symbols in current profile, click the QuoteAll button.

   To use the alert feature, following these steps

  1. Create a profile named Alert.
  2. Add symbols into it.
  3. Click the Alerts button on the toolbar.

 To set alert settings for a symbol, following these steps.
  1. Select the symbol by clicking on it.
  2. Enter desired alert setting for it, and click the Apply button. For example, enter 116 as the High Alarm of Bid price for IBM (shown above), the alarm will go off when the BID price for IBM is greater than 116, similarly enter 100 or Low Alarm of BID price, the alarm will be triggered when BID price drops to below 100.
  3. If you are long (or short) on a stock, you can also input your Position on it, if you are short on it, enter the Position as a negative number. You can also enter the cost basis (per share price) on the stock, so QuoteJava can calculate the (unrealized) gain or loss (shown as negative gain).
  4. To clear all the settings, press the Clear button.
  5. To stop the realtime alert, click the Stop button, to restart it, click the Refresh button.
  6. To use WAV sound for alert (sound card required), check the Wav alert box; to show quotes in decimals, check the Decimal box.
  7. You can choose the realtime server to use, default server is Datek.
  8. You can convert fractions into decimals right in this window, simply enter the fraction and hit the convert button.

 When stocks have reached their alert settings, either a beep or a Wav sound will be produced. The stocks that have generated alerts have a Bell icon left to their symbol. To see which values caused alert, click on the symbol, and the alarming values are shown in red. In the screen shot above, Last High and Volume have both reached alert setting.
