2.1. Introduction.
------------------
This program will act as "Finger" server on the Internet or Intranet networks,
and others on several network sites by using client programs will be able to
retrieve information about you and your users. If you have them. New releases
of this software always can be obtained at official Finger Daemon's home
page.

This archive contains the following:

3.2. Installation.
------------------
To install the Finger Daemon follow these steps:
   1) Make a directory for it on your HD.
   2) Copy archive file and unpack it there.
   3) Verify presentence of all files.
   4) Review and modify FingerD.Ini as you need, depending on your system.
      See 3.3 for more information.

   5) If you have daynight Internet connection - i recommend you to add
      server's icon to "Startup" folder of Windows 95. This will automatically
      execute it when you'll start your computer. If you don't know how to
      do this, follow next steps:
         5.1) Open "Start Menu"...
         5.2) Then, choose "Settings"...
         5.3) Select "Taskbar & Start Menu"...
         5.4) Click over "Start Menu Programs" tab, then press "Add" button...
         5.5) Choose main executable file and click "Next"...
         5.6) Select "Startup" menu, click "Next" again...
         5.7) Enter "Finger Daemon" and click "Finish" to finish this
              procedure.

   6) That's all.

Try running this program now and see how it will work.

3.3. Configuration.
-------------------
Members of "[main]" group:
   Item "port" - sets the port, where the service will reside. Optional.
   "statistics" - can be have a 0/1 value. Which means no/yes. :)

Group "[cmd]":
   "die" - means a command to kill the server from remote PC. If you don't
   wanna use it, just remark it, or enter something stupid here and try to
   forget.

Group "paths":
   "fgr" - a path to users' profiles; to all files that has ".Fgr" extenstion.
   "log" - means a path to the log. Optional.

Group "stat":  --- template for statistics screen. The response you get when
                   you finger up a host without user names... You can take
                   adventage of all the keywords available in common .Fgr
                   file(s).

   Item "header" - file that conatain the header.
   "footer" - file with footer. Goes after accounts listing.

4. Keywords in Profile.
-----------------------
All keywords must to be enclosed between the '%' (the percent) signs. See
"Keywords.Fgr" file for more information on them.

Keywords...
   %LocalHost% - displays the name of machine where Finger Server is running.
   %IP% - displays the user's IP number or name if available.

   %Time% - displays the current time on your PC.
   %Date% - displays the current date on your PC.

   %ServerTime% - displays the server run time.
   %ServerDate% - displays the server run date.

   %ServerDays% - displays the number of days the server has been running.
   %ServerHours% - displays the number of hours the server has been running.
   %ServerMins% - displays the number of minutes the server has been up.
   %ServerSecs% - displays the number of seconds the server has.

   %Exec%<file name and/or path>% - execute a specified program. This is very
      useful command. Example: %Exec%Del C:\FingerD\Fgr\*.Log%. See
      \FingerD\Fgr\Exec.Fgr file for more information.

5. History of Improvement.
--------------------------
Jan. 1, 1998 (v. 1.14) - rewritten. Source code became much smaller.

1.15 - multithreaded now.
1.16 - unnoticed change.
1.17 - from this moment .Fgr will be the standard extention for all
       profiles. Release version.

1.18 - keywords changed - it's more easy to remember them now. Keywords
       goes between '%' (percent) signs. Michael! Thank you for suggestion
       about them... :-)

1.19 - statistics screen has been changed, now it's customizable. Idea
       of M. Cunningham.

1.20 - you can now execute a command, like "Dir" (at DOS prompt) or any
       program and all the information it gives will be redirected and
       sent to the connected user. "Exec" keyword invented.

1.21 - maximum size of each .Fgr file now must be < 4 kilobytes.
1.22 - statistics screen now can be turned off. See 3.3 - configuration.
       Time-tracing bug was fixed!

1.23 - some unnoticed bugs has removed. Release version.
